United Phone Losers

We’re Moving!

So when we totally h4xed PLA Radio, one of the things we did before we left the studio was make sure the BLT drive on rbcp’s server went AWOL, then we had the PLA janitor read us the numbers on the server’s modem (it’s a little boxy thing, with switches on it).

In doing so, we were able to set aside space on the PLA server to host the UPL website in the future. Well, the future has come, and soon we will be moving everything over from our current server to the PLA server.

EXPECT SOME DOWNTIME…

Every time I’ve ever moved servers, there has been a lot of fus. we will most likely be moving over the next three days or so. If you have problems visiting the site in this time (or if the board isn’t working, etc), you know why. If it’s been a long time and shit’s still not working, I’ve fucked things up royally and you should probably panic.

I’ll let you know when everything is complete, and if there are still missing files/pages not working/server errors, etc. at that time, I would appreciate a note letting me know. BUT NOT UNTIL THEN, OKAY ASSHOLES?

Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE - 12/23/2008: Everything is up and running on the new server. If you’re still running into problems with the site, you should let me know so i can fix it.

I’m working on a new layout for the site, and as I update I’ll be makin gminor changes to the subpages to make sure they’re current and awesome. One thing I’ve done for you already is put an embedded player on our prank calls page so that you can listen to the pranks withouth downloading them. I’ll also be adding some new pranks soon, as well as other content in general.

Miscellaneous Updates

There’s a new section on the site, the UPL Source Code Repository! It is where we store all of the source code that has been submitted to us for the UPL ezine. You can also submit new code if you’d like.

Speaking of the ezine, The HTML versions of our old issues all got a makeover. Over the past couple weeks I spent some time converting each issue over to the new look. So check out the archive if you want a much cleaner, easier-to-read, non-90’s HTML look.

Along with updating the HTML, I also did a minor update to the old .TXT versions, as some of them were still in a DOS format. Now none of them are. The DOS versions are still available in an archived form, but why the fuck would you want them?

Also, I updated the “Outdated” page. And if that isn’t confusing, I don’t know what is. I added some new things and expanded on the others.

One last thing, a long time ago when UPL was in its prime, we started UPL Team Activism, which was similar to cDc’s hactivismo (but crappier). Although overall it got a lot of positive feedback from you, some people didn’t like the political agenda that UPL was taking on. To balance this out, when I brought UPL back I left out Team Activism. What I’ve done more recently is link to a free blogspot blog I put up as “UPL Team Activism,” and this is separate from the UPL site. This, other than the link on the navigation menu, is the last I’ll probably publicize it here. I’s just a small, infrequently updated blog I’ll keep which posts news stories that show the link between politics and technology. That is all. I’ll keep it tame.

No Pants and Other Updates

Though it took me a long time because I am super lazy and hate all of you, I finally finished some of the pages that I have been neglecting, including the support us page, the links page, and an all new section for all the press and honorable mentions we’ve received over the years.

But more importantly, I’ve made a page that documents a disturbing new trend on the UPL message board, in which users are posting pantless pictures of themselves. Throw your dignity to the wind and post your own bare legs on our forums. The specific thread that spawned this abortion of an idea can be found here.

We Took Over PLA Radio!

OMG HAX!

The United Phone Losers have taken over PLA Radio! In 2005, rbcp released an unauthorized issue of the UPL ezine. It took us over three years, but we’ve finally gotten our revenge! Click Here to go to the PLA Radio webiste and listen to our unauthorized episode of PLA Radio (episode #18). We go over the history of UPL, hack rbcp’s voicemail, and mess with people on craigslist.

Follow Us on Twitter

Well, looks like RBCP posted a bulletin about us over on the PLA site, so I should update to make it look like I’m really busy and active. I’ve got almost all the pages working again on the site, except the link page and the support us page. Luckily, no one cares about those pages anyway. Also…

There’s a twitter setup for PLA/UPL activities. Now you can follow us all damn day on your mobile phone or IM client, or just on the twitter page itself for those of you who are more reasonable.

Twitter is a creepy little web app that let’s you always know what boring things your friends are up to. The PLA/UPL will be using it to let you know when we have site updates, such as when a new episode PLA Radio comes out or when someone actually posts on the UPL forums. We promise not to bombard you with an insane amount of updates like all the other twitterers(?) do.

you can also follow me (username: thelinear) or rbcp (username: rbcp), but i doubt either of us will update much because we hate the twitter community.
