CLING TO THE PAST!

As time goes on, a lot of the old subpages and features of the site have become irrelevant or too embarassing for us to handle. So I removed them from the mainpage so as to avoid the scrutiny of the public eye. Luckily, the public eye is stupid and will NEVER click on this "outdated stuff" link! So because I like to keep a historical record of things, and because I know no one will ever read any of this, thus saving us all the embarassment, here's some of the more important stuff from the UPL of yesteryear. Instead of redoing most of these pages, I'm just going to provode a link to archive.org's old archives of the pages. so remember

ALL LINKS (UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED) ARE TO AN EXTERNAL ARCHIVE OF OUR SITE. YOU WILL NOT BE NAVIGATING OUR UP TO DATE SITE, YOU WILL BE NAVIGATING AN ARCHIVE OF OUR SITE FROM YEARS AGO!

  • OLD DOS-FORMATTED ISSUES (not an external link)
Even though it was 1999 and people hadn't been using DOS for years, I liked releasing the UPL .txt issues in a format that was only properly rendered in DOS. This lasted from issue 003 through 012. It was stupid, but I loved the look and feel of the DOS Edit application. More recently I have gone back and converted the cheesy DOS formatted issues in to an equally cheesy, standard .txt equivalent. However, if for some strange reason you want to fire up DOSEmu or use your Windows command prompt and see how UPL003-UPL012 originally looked, you can download the archive in tar.gz or zip format by clicking here.
  • THE LOSER ALERT
The loser alert was cute little idea where a bunch of people who had contributed or helped or were close friends of the UPL had their picture on our site. The pictures rotated randomly on our mainpage. Here's the archive of all those pictures. Some of them link to homepages, but since this is a mirror from archive.org, i wouldn't recommend going to those homepages. Keep in mind we were all very very very young here on these... some of these pictures are a decade old!
  • FREE NAWLEED
Around the time of the FREE KEVIN movement, we started a FREE NAWLEED campaign. Even though nawleed was not imprisoned or endanger of imprisonment, our movement alleged that it was just a matter of time. The site had a counter of how long nawleed had been denied his freedom (the counter stayed stagnent at 00 years 00 days, 00 hours, 00 minutes, and 00 seconds). The parody moved around from place to place, at some points having its own domains (freenawleed.com and freenawleed.org), but unfortunately doesn't appear to have been picked up by the Internet Archive and of course the original page is long gone.

  • THE TELEPHONE DIRECTOR0Y
In the 7th issue of the PLA ezine, the Phone Losers of America published a phone directory of interesting telephone numbers to call that were guaranteed to pass the time on a boring day. After awhile, many of these numbers were outdated and disconnected so several updates of this issue were released. In the summer of 1995, PLA decided to begin releasing quarterly phone directories, which would be updated as much as possible. Eventually, RBCP got tired of doing the directory and passed it along to the UPL.We maintained it for two years. Here's the archive, but some of them aren't working. I believe the latest one is, however. The UPL is working on a concept that's similar to this, only more modern forr the Web 2.0 generation. Wooooooo! (stay tuned).
  • IRC CENTRAL
We phonelosers loved us some IRC. I still love me some IRC, I just don't have the time to use it as much. Here was a page we setup dedicated to IRC. It's just a basic intro to what IRC is, basically. This goes hand in had with the next section:
  • STRANGE UPL VOCAB
We had some inside jokes and phrases that we used that we thought were funny at the time, but in reality it was all very stupid. However, a lot of these inside jokes appear in the UPL ezine, so if you want to cross reference something, here you go.
